Workers renovating a vacant house in Monument discovered the body of a toddler in the basement. Monument Police Chief Jacob Shirk called the death “suspicious.”
Workers called police about 4 p.m. Friday after discovering the body. They’d been hired for the renovations by the property owner. The house has been vacant for some time, Shirk said, and its previous occupants were renters.
Monument police and the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office are investigating the discovery, including talking to neighbors.
“More facts will come out as we get a clearer picture of what happened,” Shirk said.
