The body of a woman was pulled from Bowles Reservoir on Tuesday afternoon and investigators are working to determine how she died and why she was there, said Ty Countryman, a spokesman for the Lakewood Police Department.
The woman’s name and age were not released, pending positive confirmation of her identity by medical examiners and notification of next of kin.
“We believe she was only there today,” Countryman said Tuesday. An autopsy today will determine the cause of death, but there were no obvious signs of trauma or a cause other than drowning, he said.
A resident of a nearby apartment spotted the body about 12:30 p.m.
There was no immediate indicator of how the woman wound up in the recreational lake near West Belleview Avenue and South Wadsworth Boulevard.
