GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.—A Mesa County judge has denied a motion for a new trial for Michael Blagg, who is serving a life sentence in the slaying of his wife.
Chief Judge David Bottger on Tuesday found that Blagg’s lawyers failed to show how juror Marilyn Charlesworth’s acknowledged vision problems deprived him of a fair trial. Bottger also found a “lack of candor” by Charlesworth on her use of anti-anxiety medication but said that didn’t justify another trial.
Blagg was convicted in 2004 in the death of his wife, Jennifer, at the family’s home.
He reported her and and their 6-year-old daughter, Abby, missing in November 2001. Jennifer Blagg’s body was found in a landfill seven months later. Abby Blagg hasn’t been found.
