PHOENIX—Arizona authorities have arrested a Colorado woman who they say fled from them at high speeds and tried to carjack another driver on Thursday.

The Arizona Department of Public Safety says officers tried to pull the woman over after she ignored a traffic stop.

Instead, the woman fled at speeds of more than 105 mph. DPS says they backed off the pursuit for safety reasons but that one of its helicopters was overhead monitoring the vehicle.

Officials later used stop sticks, and the woman got off the freeway with three deflating tires.

DPS says she then got out of her car in the middle of the road and tried to carjack another vehicle nearby using no weapons.

Officers were then able to arrest her. They identified her as 37-year-old Janelle Simpson of Carbondale, Colo. She faces charges of felony flight, driving while impaired and third-degree burglary.
