The federal grand jury in Denver has indicted Eric Dodd, the alleged “Portfolio Bandit,” on eleven counts of bank robbery spanning a period from August 2009 to May 2010.

Dodd, 38, of unincorporated Adams County was arrested by an FBI SWAT team on May 13. He is being held without bond.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office said in a press release that Dodd was arrested after the FBI received two tips on his location after pictures of the “Portfolio Bandit” were publicized by Denver media.

According to the indictment, Dodd allegedly robbed eight banks in the Denver metro area in 2009 and three in 2010.

The indictment alleges that on all eleven occasions Dodd used force, violence and intimidation to rob the banks.

“Key factors in this case were citizens of our community who saw photographs of Dodd in the news media and called the FBI and Crime Stoppers with information,” said FBI Special Agent in Charge James H. Davis in the press release.

Dodd is accused of robbing U.S. Banks at seven different locations; Bank of the West at two locations and a Wells Fargo Bank and a Wachovia Bank.

If convicted Dodd faces a maximum of 20 years in prison and a $250,000 fine per count.

The robberies were investigated by the FBI Rocky Mountain Safe Street Task Force, including the FBI, and the Aurora, Lakewood and Denver police departments. Also assisting were the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office and the Colorado State Patrol.Howard Pankratz: 303-954-1939 or hpankratz@denverpost.com
