The U.S. Forest Service is proposing building a shooting range in a popular spot for informal sport shooting in Roosevelt National Forest, following a series of near-misses reported by neighbors.
Safety concerns led to an emergency closure in April of about 132 acres in and around the former Allenspark dump. Neighbors have said people shoot at all hours and stray bullets have traveled onto their properties. The area also is intersected by Colorado 72.
