BOULDER, Colo.—A 28-year veteran of the Longmont Police Department has been sentenced to two years of probation after pleading guilty to providing a confidential informant with prescription painkillers.
An attorney for Jack Kimmett said during sentencing Friday that the former officer is “embarrassed and remorseful” for what happened. Kimmett claims he gave the painkillers to the informant because he was trying to help her and her husband with their drug addictions.
Kimmett plead guilty last month to the misdemeanors of possession of a controlled substance and failing to disclose a conflict of interest. Prosecutors dropped five other charges in exchange for his plea.
Kimmett was also ordered to serve 80 hours of community service and write an apology letter to police.
