SALT LAKE CITY—An environmental group is suing the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency for not moving fast enough to act on plans aimed at dealing with pollution in parts of Utah.
Denver-based WildEarth Guardians filed the suit Wednesday in federal court in Denver, where EPA’s regional headquarters are located.
The group says the EPA has missed two deadlines for making final decisions on pollution-control plans for Salt Lake and Utah counties and Ogden. The plans involve haze and minute pollution particles known as PM-10 that can cause heart and lung problems.
The lawsuit says one deadline was March 2007 and another was March 2010.
EPA spokesman Richard Mylott said Thursday the agency is reviewing the complaint.
