BOULDER, Colo.—The sentencing hearing for a woman convicted of felony animal cruelty for taping her boyfriend’s 2-year-old dog to a refrigerator has been postponed because she has a new lawyer.

A new hearing will be set Friday for 21-year-old Abby Toll. Lawyer Joshua Maximon, recently hired by Toll, asked for time to review the case.

Toll, who now lives in Chicago, could receive probation or up to 18 months in jail.

A jury convicted the former University of Colorado student in April. Prosecutors say she used hair ties and tape to bind the dog’s snout and legs before taping him upside down to the refrigerator.

Another family adopted the dog.
