Rivers continue to run high and fast across most areas of Colorado, as officials warn of dangerous currents and possible flooding this week.
Numerous popular recreational waterways in the high country are running “much above normal,” as warm temperatures accelerate the seasonal snowmelt, according to the U.S. Geological Survey for Colorado.
The Blue River below Dillon, for example, was flowing at 1,470 cubic feet per second Tuesday afternoon. The 47-year mean for June 1 is 523 cfs, according to the USGS.
The Fraser River at Winter Park was flowing at 97 cfs Tuesday, when the the 30-year mean flow for the date is 62 cfs. And the Eagle River at Gypsum was flowing at 3,700 cfs, compared with a 63-year mean of 2,160.
