DENVER—Arapahoe Basin is closing for the season Sunday with what ski area officials say should be the area’s third-best year for skier visits.

Spokeswoman Leigh Hierholzer says skier visits will be down from last season, mainly due to a lack of snow from January to March. Heavier snow arrived in April and May. Last year was the ski area’s second-best season, behind the record 430,897 skier visits in the 2007-2008 season.

A-Basin is the last Colorado ski resort to close this year, but Mammoth Mountain in California plans to stay open through July 4.

A-Basin opened for the season Oct. 9, two days after Loveland Ski Area.
