LOVELAND, Colo.—A 23-year-old woman who drowned after jumping into a canal to save a puppy worked on a northern Colorado organic farm.
The Larimer County coroner has identified the woman as Brittany Schult. She died Saturday after she jumped into a canal near Loveland to rescue the puppy, which jumped or fell into the canal.
The puppy made it out of the water, but Schult was swept away. A friend with her went for help.
The water was about 40 degrees and 5 feet deep. The canal moves water from the Big Thompson River to Horsetooth Reservoir.
Schult lived at Eden Valley Institute, a Seventh-day Adventist mission northwest of Loveland. Frank Fournier of Eden Valley says she worked at the organic farm there.
