Gold rose to a record on demand for a haven from financial turmoil in Europe.

Gold has gained 14 percent this year as investors have lost confidence in currencies. The euro has plunged 17 percent against the dollar.

Gold futures for August delivery rose $4.80, or 0.4 percent, to $1,245.60 on the Comex in New York.
