Authorities have confirmed that the body of a girl found off Rampart Range Road on Sunday is a teenager reported missing earlier last weekend.

Sydney Causey, 17, was found about noon Sunday on national forest land in Queens Canyon near a rock formation called the Punch Bowls, according to Lt. Stan Presley of the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office.

The cause of death is still unknown. Authorities are waiting for toxicology results.

The father of the girl filed a missing person’s report for Sydney about 2:50 p.m. Saturday after she had missed a flight to see her mother, who lives in Texas, according to Lt. Jim Hopkins of the Manitou Springs Police Department.

The father told police he last saw his daughter on Wednesday, Hopkins said, adding the girl had been staying with friends for the past two weeks. Some of her friends told the father that the girl had gone hiking with friends near the Punch Bowls, Hopkins said.

Sheriff’s investigators are working with the the Colorado Springs Police Department to try to find people who last saw the girl, Presley said.
