As with a variety of other shows last week, monsoon rains didn’t stop the party in Greeley on Saturday during the 6th annual .
The two-day event started on Friday night in downtown Greeley, featuring a free performance by Too Slim and the Taildraggers, as well as local blues acts playing in the surrounding bars. Denver’s Erica Brown was a standout in her set at Roasty’s Bar. The rain set in seriously on Friday night, and festival organizers had to make a quick decision to move Saturday’s festival from the Island Grove Rodeo Arena to the indoors .
Saturday’s festival featured main stage blues acts the Informants, Too Slim and the Taildraggers, Shemekia Copeland, Sonny Landreth and the Fabulous Thunderbirds.
In between sets on the main stage, the “back porch” stage featured local blues acts including Denver’s the Clamdaddies, who put in a soulful set warmly received by the blues crowd. The most notable set of the day was turned in by Landreth, a blues guitar god and session hero who played a blistering set heavy with his signature slide playing. Though it was not the traditional sunny summer music festival, blues fans left Greeley warm, dry and satisfied.
