FORT COLLINS, Colo.—Larimer County health officials are investigating three confirmed cases of bacterial meningitis, one of which has killed a Fort Collins man.
The county health department says the 29-year-old man died Monday from the infection. His name hasn’t been released.
The department is looking into several suspected cases that have occurred over the past two weeks on Fort Collins. Department spokeswoman Jane Viste says tests are being conducted to determine if the confirmed cases are of the same strain of bacteria.
Health officials are notifying people who had close contact with the infected people. Symptoms of the disease include, fever, headache, neck stiffness, nausea, vomiting and aching or sore muscles.
Meningitis is the swelling and irritation of membranes covering the brain and spinal cord.
