WASHINGTON — Lawmakers from the Gulf Coast on Wednesday implored Interior Secretary Ken Salazar to lift a moratorium on deep-water drilling and speed up development of new requirements that have temporarily sidelined proj ects in shallower depths.

The urging came during a closed-door Capitol Hill meeting with Salazar. Roughly 30 representatives and senators repeatedly said drilling delays in the wake of the oil spill jeopardize hundreds of thousands of jobs.
