COLORADO SPRINGS — A bear attracted by bird seed and peaches snuck into a southwest Colorado Springs house Tuesday.

A person returned home about 10:30 p.m. to find the bear in the kitchen of the house, according to Michael Seraphin, spokesman for the Colorado Division of Wildlife.

The small black bear ran into a nearby bedroom, where the homeowner trapped it. The bear then climbed out a window, causing minor damage to the bedroom.

Neither Colorado Springs police nor Colorado Division of Wildlife officials found the bear once it left the house.

Seraphin said the homeowners were told to close their windows and secure their doors to keep more hungry bears from entering the residence.

“Just as you would protect your home from burglars coming in, that’s the same kind of precautions you should take from making bears come in,” he said.
