A 39-year-old New York woman was badly injured in a climbing accident in Eldorado Canyon State Park today when she was swept down a ravine in a rock slide, according to the Boulder County Sheriff’s Department.

Selma Hafizbegovic and four others from New York were about to scale Wind Tower Rock. The first person up dislodged a boulder characterized by the Sheriff’s Department as “the size of a person.”

Hafizbegovic was knocked about 50 feet down a ravine, but was not crushed by the rubble, the department stated.

She was airlifted in critical condition to a Denver hospital.

Wind Tower Rock is a popular area for beginners and moderately experienced rock climbers, according to online climbing guides.
