The Avalanche will open its 2010-11 regular season Oct. 7 against the Stanley Cup champion Chicago Blackhawks at the Pepsi Center.

An NHL source confirmed the team will begin the season then, on a Thursday night. The NHL will not officially unveil its full schedule until Tuesday at 10 a.m.

The Philadelphia Flyers today announced their home opener as Oct. 11, against the Avalanche. The Avs, an NHL source said, would have the Flyers on an extended eastern road swing that includes the three New York area teams – the Rangers, Islanders and Devils.

Also on the schedule is a Feb. 16 game at the Pepsi Center between the Avs and Sidney Crosby with the Pittsburgh Penguins.

The Avs’ preseason schedule will also be announced Tuesday. The only date announced publicly so far is an Oct. 2 game against Los Angeles at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.
