McClave High School parted ways with longtime girls basketball coach Dick Peecher, whose contract was not renewed by the school board when it met June 14.

Peecher won four Class 1A state championships in 10 years, most recently in 2009. He was 241-23 in his career, including 22-9 in the state tournament.

Under Peecher, McClave won a state record 78 consecutive games from 2004-06. That span included three consecutive state championships.

Peecher, who also taught English, told The Lamar Ledger he wanted to continue to coach for at least two more seasons.

“I think the board felt like I was a little too negative with what happened at the state tournament last season,” said Peecher, whose team went 22-3 last season. “I wanted a chance to correct some of my mistakes, but they thought otherwise.”

Assistant Kilee Randel has taken over on an interim basis.

“The school appreciates everything Mr. Peecher’s done over the years, but they’ve just chosen to go a different direction,” McClave School District superintendent Terry Weber said.
