An armed man who was shot by police in Fort Collins has been identified.
Aaron McKean, 25, of Fort Collins, remains at the Medical Center of the Rockies in Loveland where he is being treated for injuries, police said in a media release.
The shooting happened at about 7 a.m. Sunday in the 1600 block of West Mountain Avenue, police said.
Officers were responding to a disturbance between a man and a woman when they encountered an armed man, police said.
The officer who shot McKean was identified Tuesday afternoon as Officer Kobey Northen, who joined the Fort Collins department in June 2009. Following standard proceedure, Nothern has been placed on paid leave during the investigation.
Investigators would like to talk with witnesses of the shooting, which my include a woman, in her early 30s and wearing gray, who was jogging in the area at the time.
