The fourth occupant of a car that ran into the back of a Colorado Department of Transportation weed-spraying truck eight miles west of Burlington on Monday has died.

Daniel Chute, 15, of Greenville, Ill., died at 10:30 p.m. Thursday at St. Anthony Central Hospital, said Colorado State Patrol Trooper Heather Cobler.

The driver of the car, Vernon Chute, 79, and front-seat passenger Norma Chute, 77, died at the scene on Monday.

David Wilds, 15, also of Greenville, died late Monday night after he was airlifted to St. Anthony Central.

Both Wilds and Daniel Chute were passengers in the back seat of the Chevy Impala, according to Cobler.

The collision occurred on Interstate 70 about a quarter mile from the Bethune exit in the eastbound lanes.

Cobler said that Chute was driving in the left lane of eastbound I-70 and the CDOT truck was partially in the left lane of I-70 when the collision occurred.

Cobler said the investigation into the accident is continuing. She said that the CDOT truck had its amber lights illuminated and there were signs alerting motorists to the weed-spraying operation.

The driver of the CDOT truck, Michael Vance, 53, of Burlington, lost consciousness after the accident. He was taken to a hospital and treated and released.
