WARD, Colo.—One of Colorado’s most popular outdoor playgrounds is getting a $5 million facelift.
The Brainard Lake Recreation Area in Boulder County has been tapped for improvements including new campsites, a new bridge over St. Vrain Creek and a paved parking lot.
Users say the recreation site in the Arapaho-Roosevelt National Forest is long overdue for improvements. The recreation area hasn’t had a major update in 40 years. Campsites are old, and there isn’t enough parking to accommodate hikers wanting access to Indian Peaks Wilderness.
The upgrade plan includes $2 million in federal stimulus money.
