GREELEY, Colo.—Health officials say a 53-year-old Weld County woman is the state’s first confirmed case of West Nile virus this year.

The woman reported being sick June 22 and is now recovering at home. Weld County Department of Public Health and Environment says residents are seeing more mosquitoes.

The department is trapping mosquitoes at 24 locations, though none has tested positive for the virus. Greeley officials sprayed for mosquitoes along the route of Saturday’s Stampede Independence Day Parade as a precaution.

Last year, Colorado had 103 human cases of West Nile, and three of those people died.
