GREENWOOD VILLAGE, Colo.—Republican Party chairman Michael Steele says he “ain’t goin’ anywhere” despite calls for his resignation after he criticized the war in Afghanistan.
Steele’s appearance Thursday in Colorado was his first since he came under fire for calling the 9-year-old conflict in Afghanistan a mistaken “war of Obama’s choosing.”
Steele didn’t apologize for the comment but joked about what he called his “individuality.” He said it “gets me in a little trouble—but that’s OK.”
He thanked about 100 party volunteers during his Colorado stop. He is also expected to appear at events in Nevada and Washington state later this week.
