Fueled by six birdies, Barry Conser of Scottsdale, Ariz., shot a 5-under-par 67 on Tuesday to win medalist honors at Eagle Ranch Golf Course in the second round of qualifying for the Colorado Open.

Thirteen players shot par or better to join Conser in the championship. Michael Baird of Castle Rock and John Buffalo of Pueblo were the top qualifiers from Colorado, tying for second place at 3-under.

There are four qualifying rounds for the Colorado Open, which starts July 22 at Green Valley Ranch Golf Club. The remaining qualifying rounds are Thursday and Monday at Legacy Ridge Golf Course in West- minster.

Sixty players from the qualifying rounds will advance to the Colorado Open.

Top seeds alive in CGA tournament.

The top five seeds won first-round matches in the Colorado Golf Association Junior Match Play Championship at Bear Creek Golf Club.

Jonathan Park of CommonGround Golf Course, one of the co-medalists from Monday’s stroke-play quali- fier, won five consecutive holes on the front nine and defeated Ryan Schwark of Colorado National Golf Club 5 and 4.

Andrew Cornella of The Club at Flying Horse, the qualifier’s other co-medalist, advanced by default.

Eagles pull trigger on trade.

The Colorado Eagles of the Central Hockey League traded forward Ryan McLeod to the Texas Brahmas for a player to be determined after the 2010-11 season.

In the only season McLeod played for the Eagles, he had 58 points (including 21 goals) in 64 games.
