The Longmont Humane Society shelter hopes to be a stopping-off point for nine dogs that have spent most of their lives in a Mexican trash dump.

The International Fund for Animal Welfare and the Cozumel Humane Society rescued the dogs from the squalor of the city dump in May and are seeking to find them foster homes and permanent families in Colorado.

The nine dogs were “evicted” from the dump when a new operator took it over this year.

The dogs were delivered by direct flight from Cozumel to Vance Brand Airport in Longmont on Wednesday by Cloud Nine Animal Rescue Flights.

Anyone interested in adopting one of the dogs can contact the Longmont Humane Society at 303-772-1232 or online at , or by visiting the shelter at 9595 Nelson Road in Longmont.
