COLORADO SPRINGS — Police say a toddler’s guardians both thought the other was watching the 2-year-old boy when he was struck and killed by a vehicle Thursday on U.S. 24 near Garrett Road.

Harold Naber, the boy’s great-grandfather, said the boy’s mother and grandfather had returned from grocery shopping about 9:30 p.m., and both thought the other was looking after Jaydien Isome Lee Stroud.

Within moments, Jaydien wandered down the driveway. The driver of the vehicle, who was not injured, did not see the boy until it was too late. Police say they do not suspect drugs or excessive speed. The Associated Press
