Citing a desire to spend more time with his family and a need to focus on his primary job, Jeff Wennberg has resigned as coach of Columbine’s boys basketball team.
“It was a very, very difficult and agonizing decision,” he said.
Wennberg, who had a 27-47 record in three seasons, is a product director at Caption Colorado, a nationwide television captioning company. He also has a 10-month-old girl.
“In the past, I’ve been lucky enough to have some flexibility within my position that gave me options to make an early practice if need be, or leave early for an out-of-town game,” Wennberg said. “But my new position requires some travel, and I can’t do all three jobs in my life justice.”
Last season, Wennberg led Columbine (12-13) out of the first round of the Class 5A tournament for the first time since 2006 with a 52-50 win over Mountain Vista.
“I definitely want to stay around the game, possibly doing some charity camps and stuff like that,” Wennberg said.
Wennberg played with Chauncey Billups at George Washington and was part of the school’s 1994 state championship team.
