BROOMFIELD, Colo.—Broomfield police say a 19-year-old woman faces a charge in the fatal accidental shooting of a man during a Fourth of July party.

Police say Amber Lona surrendered to police Friday and she has since been booked and released from the Broomfield jail. She is being investigated for a manslaughter charge in the death of 21-year-old Anthony Varra.

Police say Lona and Varra were at a party handling Varra’s handgun. Lona told police she thought the gun was unloaded when she pulled the trigger.

Varra was shot in the face and died at the party.
