MINNEAPOLIS — Twins first baseman Justin Morneau likely will miss at least another week while he recovers from a concussion.
Manager Ron Gardenhire said Monday that Morneau will see a specialist today. The all-star first baseman hasn’t played since taking a knee to the head July 7.
Inge suffers broken hand
DETROIT — Third baseman Brandon Inge left Detroit’s game against Texas after having his left hand broken by a pitch from Scott Feldman in the third inning. He is expected to miss four to six weeks.
Braves suspended
NEW YORK — Braves pitcher Jonny Venters was suspended for four games and fined by Major League Baseball for throwing consecutive pitches at Milwaukee’s Prince Fielder on Saturday.
Braves manager Bobby Cox was suspended for one game.
Black receives extension
SAN DIEGO — The Padres gave manager Bud Black a three-year contract extension through 2013, with club options for the 2014 and 2015 seasons. Black is 281-297 as the Padres’ skipper and has his team atop the NL West standings — 4 1/2 games ahead of the Rockies.
