An estimated 1.5 million mail-in primary ballots will start hitting Colorado mailboxes today, marking the beginning of the end of primary season.

Registered Republicans, Democrats and Libertarians in 46 of the state’s 64 counties will vote by mail this primary election, with the last day of voting for all primary voters coming Aug. 10.

Secretary of State spokesman Rich Coolidge advised voters registered with one of the three parties to contact their local clerk and recorders office for more information about mail-in ballots, drop-off locations and polling places in some counties.

Top ticket races pit Republicans Jane Norton, a former lieutenant governor, and Weld County District Attorney Ken Buck against each other in the U.S. Senate race. Likewise, the mail-in ballots will help decide which Democrat faces the Republican nominee — incumbent Sen. Michael Bennet or former state House Speaker Andrew Romanoff.

Republican voters will choose between Evergreen businessman Dan Maes and former congressman Scott McInnis with the winner taking on Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper, a Democrat, in the fall gubernatorial contest.

The deadline to register to vote or change party affiliation has passed. But registered voters not now affiliated with a party may choose to affiliate at any time through Aug. 10.

For more information, contact your local elections office.
