Extremely heavy rain is being predicted this afternoon for Denver and the Front Range.
The National Weather Service said that thunderstorms will become stronger and more numerous as late afternoon heating triggers a moist air mass sitting over the Front Range.
Rainfalls of up to 2 inches an hour can be expected from the stronger storms, said forecasters.
That amount of rain will cause localized flooding of streets and low lying areas. However, the National Weather Service said the storms will be fast moving and the storms should not present a significant threat of flash flooding.
The chance of heavy rain in Denver this afternoon is 80 percent and 60 percent tonight. The high is expected to be 85. The low tonight is expected to be 64.
However, to the south of Denver, a small stream flood advisory has been issued for Castle Rock, Elizabeth, Franktown, Kiowa, Larkspur and Ponderosa Park.
The National Weather Service said a heavy thunderstorm has dropped one-to-two inches of rain over the western parts of the advisory area.
