A man sought in a double shooting in Aurora turned himself in to police late last night after seeing his mug shot on television.
Aurora police spokesman Bob Friel said that 20-year-old Vicente Solorzano called an officer at the police department and arranged to turn himself in at the intersection of Potomac Street and Alameda Avenue.
“During the conversation with officers he said he was embarrassed and upset by all the TV coverage and wanted to turn himself in,” said Friel.
Solorzano was taken into custody without incident.
Friel said the shooting about 10:23 p.m. Monday in the area of 22nd Avenue and Oswego Street was “gang-motivated.”
Officers who responded to the area found two men who had been shot.
Witnesses told investigators that several dozen people had gathered in the area of 22nd Avenue and Oswego Street when an argument broke out that escalated into a fight and then the shooting.
Investigators believe Solorzano fired a gun several times, hitting the two individuals. Both victims were taken to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Friel said that Solorzano is being held without bond in the Adams County jail for investigation of two counts of attempted first-degree murder. He added that an immigration hold has been placed on Solorzano.
