HOUSTON — Andre Johnson got the deal he wanted and said he’s committed to playing for the Texans for his entire career.

The all-pro receiver signed a two-year extension Thursday that will keep him in Houston through the 2016 season. The Houston Chronicle and KRIV-TV reported the extension had a maximum value of $38.5 million, including $13 million guaranteed.

“There’s nothing I can complain about,” Johnson said. “For me to be in the situation I was in, for this to happen, it just speaks a lot to the people we have in the organization and the owner we have. It’s a first-class organization. I’m very happy right now.”

Johnson has led the league in receiving yards the past two seasons and topped 100 catches in three of the past four. He has the NFL’s highest receiving yards average (90.2 per game) since 2006.

Goodell ponders suspensions

BEREA, Ohio — NFL commissioner Roger Goodell still hasn’t decided on the fate of two Browns players facing suspensions.

Shaun Rogers and Robaire Smith were arrested three months apart when stopped by airport security for carrying weapons.

“Both cases are still under review by our staff,” Goodell said.

Goodell praised Rogers for recently helping police stop a motorist driving under the influence through a Cleveland suburb near the Browns’ camp, but stopped short of saying it would influence his decision.

“It’s a great example of a young man making a mistake on one hand and then doing something positive on the other,” he said.

Pitcock returns to NFL

RENTON, Wash. — Once-promising defensive tackle Quinn Pitcock resurfaced with a free-agent contract from the Seahawks, two years after he stunned the Colts by abruptly leaving the sport at age 24.

He sought mental-health treatment after his departure for what he said was anxiety and mild depression.

“Last year I was getting treatment, working out and hanging out at the swimming pool doing one-and-a-half dives off the board. I’ve got a couple of 9-year-olds I was swimming with, doing gainers,” Pitcock said. “I got back to my inner child. Before, I was worried about football. Now, I’m not so worried. I just live life to the fullest.”

Haynesworth undergoes MRI

ASHBURN, Va. — Even as the Redskins ordered an MRI on Albert Haynesworth’s sore left knee, coach Mike Shanahan gave yet another reason why he’s adamant about having the two-time all-pro defensive tackle pass the team’s conditioning test.

Haynesworth, said the coach, missed way too many practices last season.

“I’ve got all the stats in there, how many games he played where he didn’t practice throughout the whole week,” Shanahan said. “If you don’t practice, you’re not going to play well. . . . My job is to make sure he can play the best once we start our season, and that’s to get him in football shape. We’ll make sure when he is ready to go, he can go full speed.”

The Haynesworth soap opera entered its second week when the knee kept him from taking the conditioning test for the third straight day. That prompted a different sort of test — an MRI — that Shanahan called a “preventative measure.”

Footnotes.

Packers safety Atari Bigby will have surgery on his troublesome left ankle today and said he hopes to heal within a month.

• Giants second-year receiver Hakeem Nicks returned to practice two days after hyperextending his right knee.

• Receiver Antonio Bryant won’t play in the Bengals’ preseason opener Sunday against the Cowboys because of a sore left knee.

• Bills defensive tackle Kyle Williams hurt his right hand during practice, though coach Chan Gailey said he didn’t believe the injury was serious.
