The Colorado football preseason depth chart grew by one Friday after the school cleared freshman wide receiver Paul Richardson to join the team, CU officials said.
Richardson was originally recruited by UCLA, but after an off-field incident with other recruits, he was let go from the Pac-10 school.
After meeting with CU’s academic and athletic departments, he was offered a scholarship to join the Buffaloes football team.
A 6-foot-1, 175-pound wide receiver, Richardson was named a prep All-American by Prep Star and SuperPrep magazines. He caught 31 passes for 552 yards and seven touchdowns his senior year at Serra High School in Gardena, Calif.
CU athletic director Mike Bohn said that the school put Richardson through a rigorous review process before offering a scholarship.
