A Douglas County Sheriff’s Deputy was shot while responding to a call at 2 a.m. Sunday morning and returned fire critically injuring a suspect.
Bayou Gulch Road is closed from Highway 83 to the east entrance of Ponderosa High School while deputies investigate the officer involved shooting.
Deputies were responding to a felony menacing incident involving a gun at the Stagecoach in the 2000 block of North State Highway 83 in Franktown, according to the Douglas County Sherriff’s Office.
Before deputies arrived, they spotted the suspect’s car near Bayou Gulch Road and Highway 83. When deputies stopped the vehicle, the suspect shot the deputy.
The Douglas County deputy then returned fire and critically injured the suspect, according to the sheriff’s office.
The deputy and the suspect have not yet been identified, and it is not clear how many shots were fired.
The deputy was taken to the hospital but has since been released. The suspect is listed in critical condition.
The investigation is ongoing and the deputy involved has been placed on paid administrative leave during the investigation, as is standard practice, according to the Douglas County Sheriff’s office.
