SOL, Store of Lingerie in Cherry Creek North is launching a new advertising campaign, SOL Air, which pays homage to the 1960s stews in the sky.
“We do a new campaign every year to try and convey that SOL is a fun place to get a bra fitting,” said marketing director Janelle Kenny. “It all comes down to trying to convey that SOL is a fun place to shop.”
Last year, Tiffany Vartanyan, the Denver-based model who is the image for the underwear store, traversed the state in a truck during a fictional road trip.
In this year’s campaign, the sky’s the limit. The campaign recently launched through a billboard at Sixth and Kalamath and will change locations each month for 12 months.
SOL is also running full-page ads in 5280 magazine and sending out 20,000 direct-mail pieces at a time to customers.
“The whole theme is that the destination is SOL, however you are getting here,” Kenny said.
The period-piece billboard shows Vartanyan — not your typical modelrexic cover girl — in a stewardess uniform (when they were called stewardesses) saluting from under a hat and flashing her bra to passers-by.
Cindy Johnson, SOL’s co-owner (with business partner Jeanie Peterson) and bra-fitting expert who has made nine “Today” show appearances, is the creative director behind the campaign.
The store will celebrate its 12th anniversary and new campaign launch with cocktails and airline peanuts from 5 to 8 p.m. Aug. 25 at 248 Detroit St. A percentage of proceeds will be donated to Wings Over the Rockies Air & Space Museum, which offered its site as the location for the SOL Air photo shoot.

Get Game.
Join me from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday as I eavesdrop from behind the bar at Big Game (1631 Wazee St.).
All tips and $2 from each signature cocktail will benefit Sense of Security, a Colorado breast-cancer charity that pays nonmedical expenses for breast-cancer patients. Any other “tips” may end up in Sunday’s column.
All of your generous tips will go to the charity during the Penny Parker Party. I know how to pour a mean glass of wine or beer. No grasshoppers or pink ladies, please.
