DENVER—Colorado’s Republican Party chair held a very small unity rally following Tuesday’s bruising primary.

While Democrats rallied around their primary winners on the Capitol steps Thursday, GOP chairman Dick Wadhams met quietly with Dan Maes, who won the GOP primary for governor.

Maes had tea party support and he only received lukewarm support from the national Republican Party he’s often criticized.

Wadhams says the state party reaffirmed its support for Maes and promised to help him get out the vote, but he says it’s up to all candidates to raise the money they need to win in November.

Maes is a political newcomer who is in a three-way contest with Democrat John Hickenlooper and Tom Tancredo, who’s running as the American Constitution Party candidate.
