Duncan Callahan, 27, of Gunnison was the first man across the finish line in Saturday’s Leadville Trail 100-Mile Run, winning the race in 17 hours, 43 minutes and 24 seconds. Callahan’s pace of 10 minutes, 38 seconds per mile put him more than 42 minutes ahead of second-place finisher Zeke Tiernan, 34, of Carbondale (18:25:30). Dylan Bowman, 24, of Aspen was third in 18:36:15.
Elizabeth Howard, 38, of San Antonio was the fastest woman in the race, finishing in 21:19:47, followed by Stephanie Jones, 40, of Colorado Springs (22:35:05) and Ashley Arnold, 23, of Carbondale (23:08:16).
All told, 363 runners completed the race before the 30-hour time limit, including Ross Bielak, 39, of Colorado Springs, who posted the last official time with 47 seconds to spare.
Coloradans shine at juniors.
Englewood’s Bobby Brown and Gus Kenworthy of Telluride led a U.S. sweep of slopestyle skiing competition Monday at the 2010 junior world championships in Snow Park, New Zealand. Brown claimed gold, and Kenworthy took the silver as Devin Logan of Vermont completed the sweep of the first freestyle event in the combined junior world championships.
The event marks the first time that snowboarding and freestyle are on the same stage in a world championship event. Teams were named in the spring and also include snowboarders Maddy Schaffrick, Chloe Banning and Cassie Wagar of Steamboat Springs; skicross racer Penn Lukens of Steamboat; and halfpipe skier Walter Wood of Snowmass.

Silverton Mountain has started selling Unguided Season passes this week for a limited-time price of $399. The pass, traditionally $799, comes with half-price standby heli-drops and 14 free ski days at other Colorado resorts (Arapahoe Basin, Monarch and Loveland). Standby guided trips also will be offered to pass holders for $79.
The experts-only ski area in southwest Colorado is increasing lift capacity on its lone chair by 50 percent this summer, reducing the space between chairs in an effort to eliminate morning lift lines.
