The Denver area — particularly the western and southern suburbs — will see rain and drizzle through the early afternoon, according to the National Weather Service.

Denver has an 80 percent chance of rain today with a predicted high of 77 degrees. Other areas that will see rain and relatively cool weather are Jefferson, Douglas, Weld, Boulder and Adams counties.

The weather service said that the rain is the result of an upslope flow of moisture that has saturated the air.

The weather service said skies in Denver will become sunny later this afternoon as a drier air mass moves over the area.

There is a slight chance of thunderstorms south of the downtown metro area this afternoon as the warmer temperatures destabilize the air mass.

In the mountains to the west of Denver — including Aspen — the highs during the week are predicted to be around 70 with between a 20- and 30-percent chance of afternoon thunderstorms.

Lows in the mountains will dip into the low 40s. However, no snow is predicted.

The Colorado Department of Transportation reported that along the Interstate 25 corridor from Pueblo to Fort Collins the highway is wet.

On the Interstate 70 corridor from Denver west to Idaho Springs the roads are also wet.

However, CDOT reported no traffic delays except some early morning traffic slow downs between Pueblo and Colorado Springs and Boulder and Denver.

Highways in the rest of the state are dry.

Denver’s temperatures will become more seasonal as the week progresses. The high Wednesday is predicted to be 87 followed by highs of 93 on Thursday, 96 on Friday and 87 on Saturday. Overnight lows are expected to be in the mid-50s to low 60s.
