It’s on summer Sundays like this that Belmar, with its outdoor café life and boutique shopping (a Nordstrom Rack is taking shape) hits its high note. That’s when the tent-style ‘Market at Belmar’ unfolds on W. Alaska; a scene that along with other amenities has become so popular, you can’t rent a flat inside Belmar now (apartments are 99% leased). And after today, you may not be able to buy one, either.
Today you can attend a “Developer Sell-Out” – special prices on the last eight Plaza Residences, luxurious loft-flats above the Belmar scene. Some 52 have already sold (11 since January)…and that leaves a handful of 1-bedrooms (today’s price, from $219,000), 2-bedrooms, and 5th-floor penthouse flats that Kentwood City Properties wants gone.
To make the point, Kentwood’s Kevin Garrett will give you a shot at one of five $100 dining/shopping gift cards that’ll be issued, from a penthouse where ice cream novelties will be served. You can wander the farmer’s market (it’s expanded now; a chance to pick up a crate of Western Slope peaches, or a crepe suzette cooked up before your eyes).
Don’t be surprised, Garrett adds, if some of the people you rub elbows with have been back to see this over and over again. “We’ve particularly seen people hovering over these final two penthouses,” Garrett said (the largest, 3-beds, 3-1/2 baths at almost 2,900 feet, is reduced $38,000 today to $815,000). “People have been waiting to see if the lifestyle here would be everything they imagined.”
You be the judge of that. In addition to Whole Foods flagship store and popular haunts like Ted’s Montana, Wystone’s World Teas, Wasabi Sushi, Little India, P.F. Chang and Elephant Bar, you’ll see where the Rack is under construction. Century 16 Theaters have added new Extreme Digital screens.
And you’ll see the attractive spaces across the Plaza from the residences where Paul Mitchell School and Ohio Center for Broadcasting have their campuses…set against views of the mountains and downtown. All of these homes, even the affordable one-bedrooms, have big windows, high ceilings, granite tops, ¾-inch hardwood floors, and parking underground (2 spaces for the penthouses), served by an elevator.
What’s the chance somebody will offer another project like this as Belmar matriculates? “You couldn’t build this again for what these are selling for,” Garrett says. Drawing winners will be called today, no need to stay. To reach, take Wadsworth south from Sixth to Alameda, east two blocks to Teller, then right two blocks to Belmar’s Plaza.
