CASTLE ROCK, Colo.—The Colorado State Patrol is investigating the death of a 42-year-old woman who was struck by a large truck while she was outside of her car on the highway south of Castle Rock.

The State Patrol says the woman’s car was parked on the right shoulder of northbound Interstate 25 when she was hit by the truck at about noon Saturday. Authorities say the driver of the truck swerved to try to avoid the woman.

It’s unclear why the woman was outside of her car in one of the highway’s lanes. She died at the scene and her name has not been released.

The northbound lanes of I-25 were closed for more than three hours after the accident.
