Chair apparent
The late architect Eero Saarinen designed the St. Louis Arch and the TWA Terminal at New York’s JFK Airport. But fans of modern design idolize Saarinen for such iconic midcentury furniture pieces as the Womb Chair and the Tulip Chair. Pieces such as these are at the heart of the new exhibit, “The Furniture of Eero Saarinen: Designs for Everyday Living,” showing through November at the Kirkland Museum of Fine & Decorative Art, 1311 Pearl St. Details: call 303-832-8576 or visit .

At The Movies
Red, white and Clooney
“The American” is a thoughtful thriller that sees Hollywood A-lister George Clooney, who plays an embattled arms dealer, stretching his already significant acting chops. R. 1 hour, 43 minutes.
A real cut-up
It’s rare to see the charismatic Latino actor Danny Trejo in a lead role. But as “Machete,” the Mexican-born renegade brought back from the 2007 film “Grindhouse,” Trejo is all grit and glory. This campy immigration satire’s impressive cast includes Jessica Alba, Robert De Niro, Michelle Rodriguez, Lindsay Lohan, Cheech Marin, Jeff Fahey, Don Johnson and Steven Seagal. R. 1 hour, 45 minutes.

He’s come undone
In “Harry Brown,” Michael Caine plays an elderly shut-in who takes justice into his own hands after a senseless act of violence. Daniel Barber makes his feature-film directorial debut with this brash assessment of contemporary British life. R. Compiled by Elana Ashanti Jefferson
