SAN DIEGO — Padres pitcher Chris Young will make his third minor-league rehab start Saturday night, this time for the Single-A Lake Elsinore Storm in the opening game of the California League’s Southern Division finals.

After that, if his right shoulder feels OK, there’s a chance the 6-foot-10 right-hander could pitch in the big leagues for the first time since April 6.

Footnotes.

• Marlins right-hander Josh Johnson stopped a bullpen session early because of discomfort in his back and is going to Florida to have his shoulder and back checked.

• The Cubs activated right- hander Carlos Silva, who was placed on the DL a day after leaving a start against the Rockies in the first inning Aug. 1 with an abnormal heart rate.

• Tigers outfielder Miguel Cabrera left Detroit’s game against the White Sox after six innings when he aggravated his sore shoulder.

• White Sox designated hitter Manny Ramirez left Chicago’s game against Detroit in the eighth inning after being hit on the left wrist by a pitch. White Sox starting pitcher Freddy Garcia (back) also left the game early.

• The Giants activated reliever Guillermo Mota (hip).

• The Reds recalled pitcher Edinson Volquez from Single- A Dayton, and he could start Saturday against Pittsburgh in place of Aaron Harang.

• The Dodgers designated infielder Ronnie Belliard for assignment and purchased the contract of outfielder Trent Oeltjen from Triple-A Albuquerque.
