Interesting beginning for Pomona, which has scored 63 points and surrendered 63. In a strong nonleague schedule, the Panthers were knocked off in Week 1 by Bear Creek, then needed two overtimes to down Mountain Vista 41-38. . . . Nick Allen began and closed the victory with touchdown runs. . . . The host Raiders had two toughies themselves, 25-21 over 4A Valor Christian and 23-13 against A-West (Connor McKay had four receptions). . . . Regis Jesuit’s lines have proved solid, and backup QB Eystin Salum hasn’t missed a beat.

The ambitious nonleague schedule continues for Dakota Ridge. A week after handling Pueblo West, the Eagles used three touchdown passes by Bolton Howes to Brady McNeily to slip past Rock Canyon 21-20. . . . Ponderosa next gets former 5A rival Highlands Ranch; Dakota Ridge will take on Green Mountain in the new North Metro.

The Trojans beat Wheat Ridge 36-20 in the 2009 4A semifinals. . . . Longmont opened in Zero Week and fell flat, losing 38-7 to 5A Arvada West, then got it together with home victories against Skyline and Standley Lake. . . . Balanced rushing has been a key, and Matt Hart leads Trojans receivers with 132 yards (on six receptions). . . . Wheat Ridge has won 27 of its last 29 games, including the 2008 state title. . . . Quarterback Nick Ossello has been the man for the Farmers with 229 yards rushing, 205 more passing.

Headed to the road, the Sun Devils actually had a rare losing record in a regular season under coach Scott Yates after Silver Creek squeezed by with a 21-20 victory in Week 1. . . . Kent Denver easily downed Lamar 38-7 in Week 2 as QB Richard Yates threw for four touchdowns. . . . You have to love that Colorado scheduling — it will be Florence’s fourth game in 22 days. The Huskies, who own a 112-41 scoring edge, next will open Tri-Peaks play, then have a bye. Their most recent victory was 35-21 over Olathe, which was 26-1 since 2008.

2A Brush in Week 2 had a decisive 28-7 victory over preseason No. 1 Faith Christian. . . . Skylar Seewald has rushed for 294 yards for the Beetdiggers. In addition, quarterback Eric Garcia has run for five touchdowns and thrown for two. . . . Wray, coming off a 21-14 victory over longtime rival Burlington, has had success through the air. Quarterback Bret Vlasin has thrown for five touchdowns, four to Ben Jones. Half of Jones’ receptions have accounted for scores. Vlasin has added 100 yards rushing and ran for two touchdowns.

The Lions have piled up 78 points and permitted only a single touchdown, late in a 35-6 whipping of Denver Lutheran. . . . Lyons has used an army of rushers, led by quarterback Roland Valadez, who has 169 yards and two touchdowns. He also has thrown for two touchdowns. . . . Yuma’s winning streak has reached 15 games. The defending state champion Indians have won 25 of their past 27 games. Their last loss was in the 2008 quarterfinals, 28-0 to Akron. . . . Nick Lovell paces Yuma with 331 yards rushing and three touchdowns.
