AIR FORCE ACADEMY — Senior leadership is a vital part of coach Troy Calhoun’s game plan to get the Air Force Falcons through difficult situations.
There may not be a more difficult time for the Falcons than now, smack-dab in the middle of a four-game stretch where they have played Brigham Young and Oklahoma and have games at Wyoming on Saturday and against Navy the following week.
The challenge is twofold: to not dwell on the Falcons’ 27-24 loss to national power Oklahoma last week, and to not look ahead to the Navy game on Oct. 2.
Three seniors — fullback Jared Tew, cornerback Reggie Rembert and defensive lineman Rick Ricketts — are determined to keep the Falcons (2-1) focused on Wyoming (1-2), which was routed 51-6 by Boise State last week.
“Coach Calhoun told us good teams don’t lose two in a row,” Tew said. “We can’t let up at all and just expect we’re going to do good things. Wyoming’s a tough football team. I think if the seniors show the need to work hard this week in practice, the younger players will follow.”
Added Rembert: “It’s a rivalry game when we play Wyoming. We have a really good team this year, and we have accomplished a lot. A good team doesn’t lose twice in a row in my opinion, and I think that’s in the back of everyone’s mind on the team.”
Footnote.
Calhoun had no update on receiver Kevin Fogler’s availability for Saturday. Fogler suffered a possible concussion in the OU game.
