Meticulous records and attentive passersby helped Colorado Springs police solve a couple of burglaries.
On Monday police were sent to the 500 block of Hilltop Drive on a “cold burglary with no suspect information,” according to the Colorado Springs Police Department blotter.
The burglary victim told the officer that she kept “meticulous” records, including serial numbers of electronic equipment that was swiped.
Meanwhile, other officers were sent to the 500 block of Automotive Drive on a “suspicious circumstances call.”
A man on Automotive Drive saw two men walking in the area with electronic equipment, which they loaded into a vehicle. The attentive tipster wrote down the license plate of the vehicle and a detailed description of it as well, police said.
“The reporting party continued to watch” the two men in the vehicle “and eventually observed them” unloading the items at a home in the 1000 block of Norwood Avenue, according to the blotter. Another passerby, a woman, also talked with police about the “suspicious pair.”
Through coordinated efforts, police tied the cold case burglary, the suspicious pair, and another burglary on 1300 block of Parkway Drive together and investigators executed a search warrant on the Norwood Avenue home.
Investigators recovered “numerous stolen items which were returned to the owners,” police said.
Police have not yet made an arrest in the case, said Lt. Pat Rigdon, but the investigation is ongoing.
