A fire that heavily damaged a Broomfield home in the 1000 block of Eagle Road early Friday was an arson, according to Wendy Forces of North Metro Fire Rescue.

Forbes said furniture and other items had been moved from the home to the driveway in anticipation of an estate sale when someone set fire to the belongings.

The fire spread from the driveway to the house.

Forbes said Tuesday that firefighters responding to the blaze, first reported at 2:20 a.m., found the lone occupant, a man in his 80s, attempting to escape the flames. He got out and was not injured.

The 22 firefighters who responded found that the fire had spread from the driveway into the eaves and attic of the house and pushed through second-floor windows and ignited two bedrooms on the second floor.

People with information about the fire should call 1-877-892-7766.
